The Choir of Chios Island was constituted in 1982. This year it is compliting 18 years of existence and of unceasing cultural presence.

During those years it has performed a lot of concerts in the town and the villages of the island as well as in other towns of Greede (Mytilene, Volos, Patra, Nafplio, Thessaloniki "Dimitria 1995", Polygyro in Chalkidiki, Tychero in Evro "Akritia 1996".

It has taken part in many festivals and competitions "Kifisia (1985), Cephalonia (1986), Karditsa (1987), Delphi (1988), Athens (1988), Aghia Paraskevi (1997) and in the 2nd International Competition of Choirs (Athens 1992) where it has stood out several times.

It has given concerts abroad in Saint-Marcelin in Grenoble, France (1993) and in Odessa, Ukraine (1994).

It has offered hospitality to the choir “Interlude” of Saint –Marcelin (July 1996).

It has collaborated with the composer Demetris Lagios and it has performed in World Premiere the “Folk Songs of Chios” of Michael Adami, inspired by the work of H. Pernot “120 folk melodies of the Island of Chios”

Yet, the Choir of Chios takes pride in two thinks: firstly, its Children’s Choir (Childrens Polynhonic choir of Chios), a nursery which indispensable for the replenishment and continuation of its work; and the institution of cultural exchanges.

The collaboration with 9 choirs, 7 Greek and 2 foreign ones, is the rich account of that institution. In the scope of these exchanges the Choir of Chios inaugurated the cycle of its musicales dedicated to its 15-year existence by a concert which was given together with the Austrian Choir VOCALE NEUBURG on May 18th 1997 at the Homeric Intellectual Center of Chios. On July 25th 1998 the Choir of Chios departed for Voralberg Austria, invited by the Austrian Ministry of Culture and the Vocale Neuberg Choir.

Among its special activities the Choir of Chios includes the organization of seminars with eminent music teachers, musicologists, lyrical artists and conductors, in an attempt to develop continually techically and musically in singing.
