1. The Agrotourism Co-operative
.
The Women's Agricultural Tourism Co-operative
of Southern Chios was established in 1985, on four of the Mastic villages
in the southern part of the island.
.
On the villages Armolia, Pyrgi,
Olympoi, and Mesta, the co-operative has today
63 rooms with 135 beds. The houses of the members have been converted to
comfortably accommodate visitors and they have separate (or common for
two rooms) bathroom. Most of the rooms are traditional and they are all
equipped with living-room, kitchen, and balcony or small yard.
.
Breakfast and meals are served to the visitors
who wish to try the local cuisine and the home-made food.
.
The women farmers give the alternative
solution against the mass tourism, by offering to the visitor the chance
to spend a few days in a quiet and idyllic environment; the opportunity
to rest next to the openhearted people of the villages and enjoy their
hospitality.
.
